I feel preety sure that this shop was on Whitechapel Road. I used to go there with my mother to buy pink paraffin and we used to take our own plastic container to be filled. the whole shop smelled of paraffin fumes which I loved!

I have just checked on Google maps for 183 Whitechapel Road and the location is exactly where I remember the paraffin shop being situated .

This was my parents’ shop! I was amazed to find it and feel privileged that it will be included in the history of the East End. It was 183 Whitechapel Road and as a child I went there often. They sold paraffin, cut keys and sharpened scissors. All the local tailors went with their scissors and many customers were doctors from the London Hospital. For any historians out there I would be happy to answer any questions I can.
