I admire Nicholas Borden’s productivity — it seems he was able to completely negate the pandemic during the working process.
A favorite image that I immediately wanted to own is the simple view of Meynell Road in Hackney. I love it!

The Lake, Victoria Park, took me back to Parmiter’s schooldays (1944-49) and many an idyllic summer lunchtime spent paddling around in one of the boats; threepence never better spent. Are boats still for hire, I wonder?
A wonderful collection. It is a privilege to see them, thank you. I love the vibrancy and exuberance of the vegetation particularly in ‘Arnold Circus, Boundary Estate’ and ‘Wishful Thinking’. Equally I adore the calm atmosphere and tones of ‘The Lake, Victoria Park’. And yes, something about Meynell Road, Hackney … But really, everything is a feast. Thank you again.
Thank you, these are delightful and what a treat to see paintings that are not just a photographic record. I love the way the artist treats water, and St John at Hackney is of special interest as my grandmother, one of her sisters and her three brothers, were all baptized there. But the River Lea at Clapton has to be my favourite as my great grandparents had a house on Spring Lane beside the River Lea and I have copies of several paintings of the river which now belong to my youngest cousin’s family. Which member of the family was responsible for them I don’t know but they are very good, one shows the bridge at the bottom of Spring Hill, which still exists I believe, and another shows the view across the river towards Walthamstow when it was all open countryside. My grandfather used to row and skate on the river and I have the prizes that he won in the single sculls, he was a great sportsman enjoying swimming and boxing as well, a lovely man and a real cockney.

GA, kudos to Nicholas Borden for producing these wonderful London landscapes during the pandemic with no hint of gloom. My favorites are: the close up of “Tower Bridge,” “Saint Martin in the Field,” and “Regent’s Canal.” The latter reminds me of a lovely sail I had on one of those ancient boats from the elegance of Maida Vale to the vibrancy of Camden on a summer afternoon.

These are wonderful – such a sense of place and perspective that I’m transported time and time again – I started making a list of favourites and it got longer and longer – Meynell Rd, Gawber St. Tower Bridge, River Lea at Clapton, Tower block nr Columbia Rd, St. Martin in the Fields, Leopold Buildings, The Lake at Victoria Park, Southwark Cathedral, Public Baths, the Garrick Theatre…but all of them are full of life and character. An exhibition would be great news.
