An East End Alphabet
Amandine Alessandra & Rute Nieto Ferreira see letters everywhere, and now they have channelled their witty insights into a nifty paperback published by Tower Block Books. Beautifully produced as a numbered limited edition, printed by risograph and including a map to set out in search of this idiosyncratic East End typography, THE BIG LETTER HUNT is a modest imaginative triumph.

Absolutely amazing how we all see the same thing differently!
I think this is a case of left and right sides of our brains, or is it the other way around?
A phenomenal idea, astonishingly transposed!

Phenomenal and astonishing, but not unique…
Truly life-affirming in its typographic brilliance! …delightfully well observed, and knowingly interpreted to such great affect
And who knew about Risographs (1980s Japanese, drum-thermal-plate duplicating technology that uses ‘real ink’ just like offset printing)
But now we do 🙂

Thank you Amandine and Rute and Tower Block Books, and of course GA too!
…and yes the ‘N’ is so brilliant — wonderfully distinctive and memorable — that we get to see it upside down too! …perhaps just to see which of us typo-graphically inclined ‘Lifers’ is really paying attention?? …this is after all about seeing the world from every which angle, and from a new perspective sought not given. Looking and seeing anew 🙂
Yes, I’d like to come on a letter hunt…
Beauty and letters are in the eye of the beholder methinks, but good luck to them.
Very playful. Love it!
For similar – check out the amazing photography of Martin Wilson. Mostly shot around London , what appear to be cut and paste or collages, are actually contact sheets – but with weeks of planning before the shoot takes place.
One wrong shot during the run, and the whole process has to start again…
This is his take on Oranges and Lemons…
