by the gentle author

Favourite illustrator Marion Elliot has conjured this magnificent alphabet of folk, superstition and lore as part of FROM A-Z & BACK AGAIN, an exhibition of three risograph alphabets by John Bradley, Marion Elliot & Jonny Hannah, which opens at Townhouse, Fournier St, this Saturday 1st November and runs until Sunday 16th November.

I feel triple-blessed today. Not only have I enjoyed exploring these wonderfully-concocted
images, but (as an outsider, looking in) I have the anticipated pleasure of researching/investigating some of the unknown-to-me traditions. PLUS, I have added Marion Elliot to a list of favorite
British artists……….Jonny Hannah, Ed Kluz, Clive Hicks-Jenkins, Mark Hearld. (forgive any misspellings, folks) Some of the images evoke already-savored manias, such as “Ex Votos”
and “Sailor’s Valentines” but many of the panels await fresh exploration. I love Ms. Elliot’s wise ways with type, and her astute graphic illustrations. There is wise humor afoot here, but nothing “jokey” — thank you, GA, for making the introductions.

I’m very envious of those who will attend the exhibition! And can’t wait to look into the Lithuanian crosses. Has anyone checked out the bronze shrines by artists from Benin, carried on high, atop poles/staffs?
