    The toilets shown were known to some local market street holders as “ The Houses of Parliament .”
    due to the debates on politics in the Gents there !

    The bones of today’s Spitalfields are there, but the area has changed so much. Most would say for the better, but I can’t help thinking alot of the character has gone too. Thanks for the photos!

    Fascinating history, but also some rather sad looking images too, with so many places boarded up; not to mention the rubbish of course.

    So different from how the area is now!
    So many properties in Artillery Street/Passage and Gunn Street To Let back in the 80s on thosephotographs, if I am walking in the area I’m always so thankful that the buildings have survived and are looking great again, a real slice of old London!

    Love these old narrow London streets – character over modern faceless blocks anyday..
