Spitalfields may have had “character” back then but with litter all over the streets and an air of abandonment, give me today’s Spitalfields any time. The past, which usually survives as nostalgia in our minds isn’t always the best of times..

Oh my how Brushfield street has changed! And all the times I have walked down there when visiting never noticed the Gun!! Nice to see they passages are still there with thriving businesses

So different from how the area is now!
So many properties in Artillery Street/Passage and Gunn Street To Let back in the 80s on thosephotographs, if I am walking in the area I’m always so thankful that the buildings have survived and are looking great again, a real slice of old London!

The bones of today’s Spitalfields are there, but the area has changed so much. Most would say for the better, but I can’t help thinking alot of the character has gone too. Thanks for the photos!

The toilets shown were known to some local market street holders as “ The Houses of Parliament .”
due to the debates on politics in the Gents there !
