by the gentle author

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to my crowdfund to launch a COMMUNITY TOURISM PROJECT in Spitalfields as a BETTER ALTERNATIVE to the serial killer tours that monetise misogyny.

We have raised just over 80% of our target now and there are 7 days left, so please spread the word and search down the back of your sofa.

I’m going for around 5pm GMT or 6pm BST working from the shadows in the entrance to Christ Church in the 13th picture down Brushfield Street. The Sun looks more or less due West at that time.

Some of the earlier pictures looking down (up?) Brushfield Street were half an hour earlier I think.

    Nice images.

Evocative pictures. The dereliction of the area, especially The Gun with its awful façade is evidence of the lack of integrity on the part of some architects and greedy developers.

Thank you Gentle Author for another great article. I loved Philip Marriages photos which took me right back to when I first started work in 1984 at Moorgate and used to go for a walk at lunchtime twice a week to Petticoat Lane / Wentworth Street Market. I had been going to the market since I was a child but only explored Brushfield Street and Artilary Passage etc when I started work.

It looks more like 1974. Only the odd bit of modern signage and a couple of cars prove otherwise.
