One wonders what these strange costumes are all about? A cross between an Easter bonnet parade and Morris dancing?

Thinking of you at Eastertime dear GA ?

And God bless all souls recently departed.

l would love a description of the mini “Morris Dancers” ? in your photo and the cage headgear.

So disorientated by the days merging and all seeming like Sunday, l almost missed Easter, thinking it was weeks away.
Prompted only by a lunchtime email from the Royal Albert Hall advertising their STAY HOME rendition of Handel’s Messiah (performed annually on GOOD FRIDAY without fail since 1876.)

With the most amazing technology & tenacious spirit, this tradition was not thwarted even by a fearful plague.

The Musical Director conducted socially distanced, alone from his garden, dressed magnificently in full bib & tucker, as were all the choristers filmed from each of their homes dressed to the gills. Bravo! The clip is on Youtube.

One of the very best experiences of my life was singing the Messiah in an international choir in Spain.

l was walking on air for weeks, quite unable to return to earth, and now here again the music but mostly the sheer determination lifted my wavering isolated spirits to the stars.

And afterwards, thankfully, l rustled my last Hot Cross Bun from the freezer

Thanks for the Easter offer GA – it gives me the chance to complete my Spitalfields Life library!

I was interested to read the comment above about the Messiah. My mother and I have been going on every Good Friday for nearly 20 years now and this year I had to set up the CD player at home instead. It was still very uplifting, but interesting enough the Hallelujah Chorus and Amen didn’t move us to tears as it does when we hear it live (we always sit just behind the choir so get the full effect of the massed voices).

I will now go to Youtube to see the virtual rendition…

    Saturday 11/04/2020.
I’ve tried to order the Doreen Fletcher Paintings book, full price £20. I tried to add the 50% discount offer, namely ‘EASTER’ but message pops up saying Not recognised.
    Any suggestions? Thank you

The lads in the picture are the Midgley Pace Eggers – they go out every Good Friday and do a tour of local spots. the play is a ‘hero – combat’ mumming play featuring St George, the Black Prince of Paradine, the comic quack Doctor, and other secondary characters . As is typical in these plays there is a fight between St George and the Black Prince – George is ‘killed’ and revived by the Doctor. We have been going for a long time.
