Bob Mazzer At The Ace Cafe
Contributing Photographer Bob Mazzer & I joined a Bike Couriers Reunion at the Ace Cafe on the North Circular recently. Despite their fearsome black leather outfits, we enjoyed a generous reception from the bikers. “They’re outsiders,” Bob explained to me, “So they welcomed us because they recognised we’re outsiders too.”

Why do they all look like they could do with a good bath and or shower? Is looking scruffy and durty part of the uniform?
Wonderful photos, I very much miss not being able to sit on my bike these days. Valerie
The lonesome Policeman has a look in the eyes either; “I wish I was anywhere else but here. Or ” What am I doing here; shall I just remove my institutional public jacket & join them, boy I wish I could ” 🙂
Fab pictures! We used to go to the Ace Cafe quite a lot when our kids were younger, for beans and chips tea. It’s really friendly.
Dear Brian,
The grime is due to the quality of London” s air, ie pretty dirty, imagine the state of their lungs.
Lovely record!
Great stuff!

There isn’t a Policeman in the photos – have another look at the jacket ;-D
Love the photographs – I bet they’re all great guys and real characters.
Great photographs. These are unpredictable fellows. It was a gay motorcycle club, and a really tough lot, who badgered a local classical music station in Denver, Colorado (USA) into playing religious music on Sunday mornings….
