The story of hop huts yalding is untrue – the huts were not built for seasonal pickers but were used for winter housing of farm animals. we the hop pickers painted and wallpapered huts ready to make liveable: toilet was a dug hole with wooden shed, tap was a standpipe outside huts for everyone, no electric just oil lamps, fire built outside for cooking and a communal cook hut with fires.
