Hi, I’ve been looking at your photos of ex London boxers as I draw boxers as a hobby. I’ve just drawn Ronnie Smith and wondered if you have any information on the ex boxers you have photographed as I’m interested in their background, boxing records etc? Thank you!
Hi,
I still see him around Camden. I know him well enough to have a beer with. Complete Gentleman.
When I was 16 I worked with a lovely man Denny Hallet, he asked me and another apprentice to come to his boxing club (hampstead and district ABA) we went a few times and I had no idea on how to box or defend. Denny was very considerate and helpful. He put me in the ring with a boy who sent a hook to the side of my head, Blimy did I wobble. I never forgot the name of my assassin, it was Ronny Smith. I don’t know why, but I just looked his name up and read his lovely story, I know he did not try to hurt me, but what a punch.
What a nice club
