I always think the saying “it breaks my heart to see this” is overplayed, but on this occassion, it really does break my heart to think that the London Fruit Exchange will, or has been, demolished. I worked there in the 1980s, it was so full of life, it still had many art deco features, it was a wonderful place to work, the Geest, formerly Francis Nichols offices were on the ground floor, one of the windows can be seen on the left of the doorway in the photo. I suppose it doesnt help that back then I was 30 years younger, but it is a sad day when such a beautiful building is demolished to make way for more of the crap that is overtaking our once regal city.
