Just behìnd the school I went to. 1946-50
I remember going to ‘Mrs Spitals’ shop as a child back in the 60’s. It was quite run down and she was quite elderly. She had the most enormous black cat. She took quite a shine to me and would break off a piece of halva for me, I still love the taste of halva to this day.,

The Spital Shop was at 136 Old Montague Street – now long gone of course. I took a similar photo in 1970 (Tony’s was a couple of years earlier) and managed to discover the location after a helpful tip from the Survey of London: Whitechapel [ https://surveyoflondon.org/ ]
