I see from the photo No.40 Brushfield Street and was wondering if the numbers increased or decreased towards Christchurch. My grandmother lived at No74 Brushfield Street between 1901 and 1927 and I am trying to place the house.
Her name was Annie Pease and she would have been about 12 when she moved here from Colchester Street, Whitechapel. Her father was Joseph who worked in the stables at Spitalfield Mother Mary Ann. She would have had one older brother and three sisters.
My family lived at 40 Brushfield Street, before it was Verde Importers. My family is the Kaplowitch family who lived there from 1901 – at least 1915. They had a lace business where the Verde is now. It was called C. Kaplowitch and Co. I’m looking for a photo of 40 Brushfield Street in the early 1900’s.
