Harry The Pencil’s Clerkenwell Sketch Book
When I was visiting Harry The Pencil – also known as Harry Harrison – in Mile End, he showed me this modest little sketchbook that he filled when he was working in Great Sutton St, Clerkenwell, undertaking a single half hour drawing each lunch hour – most are nearby his office but you will spot a few further afield in Soho, Kings Cross, Hatton Garden & Spitalfields.

Clever stuff! And his paintings are impressive, too.
Clever!
Brilliant!
Lovely, pictures from Harry pencil this morning. Good start to Monday morning. Thank you.

I love this kind of drawing style: with a relatively few strokes the whole impression is captured after all!

Wonderful drawings. Thank you.
Such a steady hand! And so good an eye!
Talent on show here, wish I could have drawn buildings as well as that with a pencil !! But that tower block, that is the stuff nightmares are made of !!
Lovely work.
I used to work just across the road from Tasty Cafe and used it most weeks. Serge was a real character and we were really gutted when Tasty closed. He mentioned he was going to open something near the Strand, but nothing seemed to come of it.
The burgers in Tasty couldn’t be beaten, massive and freshly made. Great little place.
Greetings from Boston,
GA, what delightful pencil sketches by Harry the Pencil. I particularly liked the interior of “Tasty Café,” the imposing doorway in Clerkenwell 24-4-09, and St. Pancras Station from the British Library. Great perspective in all these drawings…
What a talent! These are simply wonderful.
So so lovely
I wish his drawings were available in a book! I love his sketches- perhaps you could do an in-depth about him with more sketches in the future?
These are just wonderful. I have come back to them several times and always find something new and a new favourite. I also followed the link to Harry Harrison’s East End Portraits – so poignant.
Thank you.
Dear gkbowood,
I have a book published of my architectural drawings, sketches and paintings called, ‘Harry the Pencil’, it is available on-line and from Amazon I think.

Hi David / Harry.
Is it ‘Sharp and to the Point’?:

I’d love a little booklet of just your Clerkenwell ones. Utterly fabulous!
I made a little book called ‘101 Moderately Interesting Facts About Clerkenwell’ but just for fun. (I should have got a publisher, really. Would have made it easier to distribute!). My drawing skill isn’t a patch on yours, mind. Sublime.

Wonderful images. Wish I could draw, but my efforts have always been rubbish
