Very interesting video, but sad at the same time, so many places, traditions and trades just disappearing. Valerie
Beautifully portrayed. We’ve know Gary for many years, and he doesn’t need a script! Wishing him a long, happy and healthy retirement with his lovely wife.
Strangely both poignant and an uplifting reminder of the human spirit.
I remember very well going to Arber’s shop in the 1950s to buy Enid Blyton’s Famous Five books. There were just a few books on the shelves as I recall but the shop seemed to sell a mixture of so many things and it had such an atmosphere. I was so pleased to see it again on Spitalfieldslife. Thank you.
What HAS happened to the presses and the type, etc? I saw letters from years ago asking that the National Trust be contacted.
Have I missed the column that told us the fate of the wonderful materials in the shop?

The old presses have been given to “Catseye Press in Happisburg, Norfolk where they are being restored and put into use by Graham & Mark Pressman.
The Wharfedale is fully restored and Graham is powering it with a steam engine
