    ‘Working by candlelight” — possibly; but I should expect the tapers to burn irregularly and thus to be some short, some tall. The uniform height of the light-sources makes me wonder if the image might show gas-flame burners instead (useful to seal parcels with wax?). Similar kit is shown in the image below, one of a room well-lit from a window-wall.
