My father (Barney) was born on Old Montague Street in 1889!! After abandoning boxing as a career(!) he worked his way up to master craftsman jeweller. He served with the Army Service Corps in France 1914-1918. Then he shipped as an assistant cook with the Cunard Lines so he could find a place in the New World to bring up his growing family. He settled on Canada over Australia or South Africa. Lucky us! And he wore a cap, like your “Dad”, which may be what prompted me to write this!
