My great grandfather was Lawrence Hunt (1863/1944). He was born in Wapping and worked in Wapping docks. My late mother told me that he wore a bowler hat to work, had a fine moustache and stood up for dock workers’ rights. I believe he represented the workers to management. He married Johannah Dempsey in Bethnal Green in 1884.
I wonder whether you know of any text/newspaper/historical/photographic references to Lawrence that may have been retained in Wapping dock’s historical files so that I can learn a little more about his work at the docks. With thanks, Lesley Dunlop
