When I saw the name Sally Flood pop up in my newsletter I was instantly transported back to my late teens early twenties. An 18 year old becoming part of the Oxford House Bethnal Green , team running the youth club there , I was drawn to the amazingly creative people sharing their work. Having been born and brought up in Tower Hamlets , I was always told stories about the East End by my older aunties and uncles as well as my grandparents , who came from the east end boxing fraternity. I always found it fascinating. I’d take kids that I worked with to see performances by local poets and writers , Sally was amongst those. It was so important for those kids to see that poets were not “ all posh blokes “. Thanks to Sally and her fellow writers for showing the world that everyone has something worthwhile to say , in their own way. Maria O’Keefe ( Buckley )
