I remember visiting my ‘auntie’ Amy in about 1962 to get rid of her upright piano..broken up in the street outside the tenement. All I can recalled is seeing her sitting in a small room at the landing on the first floor I think. She was a silhouette in the darkness and the air of poverty was so evident. Her husband was a docker and she had a wooden leg, we were not rich, we came from Kendal Rise, but this was a good level below us….
