The Hounds Of Hackney Downs
I was among the first to admire the latest masterpiece created by Hackney Mosaic Project under the presiding genius of Tessa Hunkin, completed on Hackney Downs yesterday. Tessa’s design takes its inspiration from the canine users of the park and proud owners were lining up at once to identify their pets immortalised upon the wall. The mosaic can be visited any day in the park and look out for a celebration in September when all the dogs portrayed will gather for an official unveiling ceremony.
THE HACKNEY MOSAIC PROJECT is seeking commissions, so if you would like a mosaic please get in touch hackneymosaic@gmail.com

I love this! It is fabulous. If I ever needed an incentive to save my pennies so I could spend at least one day in London, *this* is it. I have to see that mosaic in person, even if my current “cane” can’t join me.
Does the public realize what absolute masterpieces these are?
Please post a September photo of the models beside their immortalized selfs if possible?
What a glorious mosaic! Full of charm and liveliness, it captures the joie de vivre all these jolly dogs feel as they are let off the lead to scamper about. It makes me want to live in Hackney (well, almost).
I never tire of seeing what these magnificent mosaic designers are up to. Please continue to shine a light on their unique talents. I insist. And my black cats, Satchmo and Seymour insist. Oh wait……Surely there needs to be a cat-centric mosaic also.
Beautifully executed!
All of the above. I LOVE this.
Yes -superb work which captures the characters of the dogs so well! You can instantly tell which ones would be yappy, smelly, frisky, precious, or just plain cute… My favourites are Audrey and
Abbie as I have a soft for greyhound type dogs, but I think the portrait of Cookie is a particularly brilliant use of the mosaic tiles (especially the teeth!) Keep up the good work…
Every town park should have one! Fabulous mosaic work, fabulous fun!
I love this mural and it’s celebration of the dogs who walk or play in the park! Can’t wait to come back to London and see it.
