We went to the Bandstand every night to hear Les….and his Orchestra. I remember the Pier well and had no idea that it no longer existed after a storm.

I had to go looking afterwards for a map of Kent from the time of ancient Roman occupation or thereabouts to see the Isle of Thanet.
I know that Herne Bay was a destination for an end of (summer) term school trip in the mid to late 1960s. I also had to look up Donald McGill’s name because as kids we used to be somewhat bemused by the sauciness of the postcards – they were ubiquitous then and are probably collectors’ items now.
