Just to clarify: Bill Brandt didn’t leave Germany because of the Nazi threat. His father was British which gave Bill British citizenship. His mother was German. He shunned his German links and claimed many times that he was born in London, even though he spoke with a quite pronounced “foreign” accent. He was living in Switzerland and Vienna after WWI and from there he went to Paris to work with Man Ray in 1930. After a few years he moved to London to work as a photographer. He lived in London for the rest of his life. He lived at 4 Campden Hill, Kensington, where a blue plaque can be seen.
