My dad used to drive London buses for many years, both RTs (as this is) and RMs. He stopped a year or so after the one man buses (OMOs) were introduced. Londoners will remember a driver and their clippie (male or female, same name) sharing a smoke sitting on the back seats at the end of a run out before they turned back to the station. My dad hated not having this cameraderie.

Lovely photos, as always, thanks.

The number plate MXX261 identifies the bus as RLH61 , a low bridge RT variant, but it has a foreign ( American) plate underneath so is probably a bus-enthusiast owned

More fascinating photos. What happened to the shoe repair shop that Suleyman bought? Is it still in business elsewhere, and still run by perhaps a descendant of Suleyman?

Just 100 years ago, UK trams were in their golden era, having both single-level and upper double-level, with London having the largest network.

They were doing fairly well for 50 - 60+ years, right up until 1960-65. When we copy the USA (rather than our nearest nicer neighbors) things rarely turn out well?

Clapton Pond
Err.. NOT a Routemaster - that's a much older design - is it one of the "special" lowbridge types?
{ It's not a standard "RT" either }
