An inspiring story. I am glad that they managed to build a life here in England, after their dreadful wartime experiences.
I was also born in December 1950, I wonder if we share a birthday?

What a terribly sad, but also an inspiring story in just a few paragraphs. The War, any War is truly terrible. It’s sometimes hard to understand the bravery and determination to survive when absolutely everything is against you and those you love. I am in awe.

I remember Esther Brunstein very well. She and my father knew each other from the Jewish Workers Bund in Lodz and they met up again in London. My father’s journey to the UK mirrored Stan’s experience almost exactly – Lodz to Siberia to the Anders Army and on to Scotland. He finally put down roots and brought up his family in the East End. He was very fond of Esther and I remember visiting her and Stan in Ilford. She was a lovely woman. I never met Lorna though!

Thank you for sharing Lorna’s story and how the kindness of others helped her family start a new life in the UK. It pains me to hear that successive governments of this country have been putting obstacles in the way of refugees seeking sanctuary even back in the 1940s are still doing so today.
