I lived just around the corner on Margaret Street for two years whilst training as an actor. This was our watering hole. Many raucous nights enjoyed by us all. I made a pilgrimage a few years ago whilst I was in the area. The place was virtually empty of customers and as I sat looking at the space that we had made our own, it made me reflect on those old friends, and how transient some of our relationships are as we sail through the lives that we make for ourselves. I've lost contact now with all of those individuals who I spent many a happy hour with, but I raised my glass to them and silently wished them all well, wherever they are now. As I sit here now typing this comment, it makes me think of that line in a song from the musical Les Mis. 'Empty chairs at empty tables, where my friends will sing no more'. I probably won't ever go back there again, too sad.
