Lovely stuff.

I too love Pied Wagtails, and have memories of The Observer Book of Birds from which I learned a great deal as a young teenager. These memories also link to a family member but, in my case, a Great Aunt who had a lasting effect on my life, though she had been gone from us for many years.

Thank you for sharing this, Mat.

From someone who writes about old cars to the music journey who wrote this, thank you! The wagtails have left our Carmarthenshire garden and they're no longer in Pembrey Country Park, and their absence is much felt. But they willl return, and once again bring diminutive joy to my garden and hopefully to your morning walk to work.

This has made my day, as I have seen them on Bishopsgate, by the corner of Devonshire Row and outside Eataly. From my office up above 135 Bishopgate, we have spotted them following buses and sitting on the parapet above the police station, where they spy rich pickings (or targets). Thank you, I’m so glad to know what they are.

I saw a pair wandering around Petticoat Lane market(Middlesex St). They cluster together to roost at night - there used to be a colony outside the Holloway Odeon on the Holloway Road. It’s lovely to see such elegant, delicate creatures enjoying city life. Lovely piece, thankyou.

They move in over the winter
Large numbers in central Croydon, years ago.
Seen them at the top of the market & on the station at Walthamstow Central recently.
Very "perky" & individual, aren't they?
