Unique? The series has such a point of view; such a dedication to story-telling and descriptive details. I think such portraits can be rightfully described as “folk art”, in a most complimentary way. The bootmaker has run away with my heart, as he stands there looking so prideful. He’s removed his work apron for the portrait, wanting to be seen in his best clothes. Such large capable hands. “Handsome is as handsome does.”

So thrilled that these images have survived!
