I wonder if anyone knows any more about the history of Paul Pindar's House?
The Telegraph recently published a picture of it in an article titled London's 15 Greatest Lost Buildings. (18 March 2026).
The sign over the door was J Townsend and a sign in the window read Fine Old Ales & Stout.

I wondered if this might be an ancestor James Townsend (1788 - 1866) who was a wine merchant and emigrated to New Zealand with his wife and ten children in 1850?

Back in the late 90s I occasionally worked in the V&A shop, it was in a slightly different location and the frontage of Paul Pindar's house was against the wall there. I thought it was very impressive but had no idea of the history behind it at that time!
