A fascinating read. I took have many links with Whitechapel but, in modern London, I never know where the boundary lies. The first occasion that I visited Wilton's Music Hall, I walked back to my hotel afterwards, and wasn't paying attention to how far I had walked. I wandered quite a bit further into Whitechapel than I had intended, and found myself on unfamiliar ground. I walked through the deserted market and eventually found my way back onto the High Street, which, far from being quiet and deserted, was thronging with families breaking their fast, this being Ramadan.
It was a delight to see so many people and I walked back to my hotel having explored more of Whitechapel.
