My husband was in the retail fabrics business and was delighted to read this as he remembers buying from Mr Epstein. He also remembers him telling him that his partner's son Dave was starting his own business and suggesting he visited his shop too, which was in the building on the corner of Hanbury Street in your website picture. My husband dealt with both of them for some years. Thanks for a trip down memory lane!

I still love materials, and seeing Bolts of material on the racks here is just wonderful. I was not only very petite for my age, but I would never have been able to afford all the fashions of the 1960s if I hadn't made my own clothes. There were material shops in most towns, as well as outdoor market stalls. We have a large shop in the town where I now live, but right at the back of it, are racks and racks of lovely materials, with a long counter especially designed for measuring out lengths of material for someone who wants to make something. A lovely thought that people ARE still making their own clothes. Long may they survive.
