How I love photos like this, faces full of joy as people are about to have a grand day out. I’m smiling at the young guys in the cowboy hats in the last pic.
I just had a recent bereavement and these lovely images have really made me cheer up 🙂

“sing-alongs on the way home”. That simple phrase — plus all of these glorious photos —
captures a sense of long-ago nostalgia and fond memories. I so enjoy seeing these folks taking a pause for the camera, seemingly congratulating themselves for a Life Well Spent.
Their joy is palpable.

Is my mind playing tricks or is this a real memory? That at Joe Lyons’ s Corner House restaurants in the late 30’s or early 40’s there used to be a menu item called a “Beano”? Of course I was taken there as a small child, and not very often, but it made some strong memories, including a little band playing on the stage to accompany teatime but (perhaps) only at one Corner House, though I have certainly forgotten which.

Wonderful photographs! I have one or two of my grandad in the 1950s with the St David’s Tinplate Works beano’s near Llanelli! Something very lovely about these photos.
But!!! You now also need to do a post on the accordianists of east London!
Like the loss of the pub ‘Joanna’ I guess they have all gone 🙁
But were any more famous than others?
