In my part of Switzerland allotments are called Freizeit Garten and people have lovely sheds sited on them – as long as there is running water you can sleep in your shed overnight and people do this in the hot and humid summer. Sadly we’ve never been able to get our hands on one as they tend to pass down through families, but they are nice to look at and people proudly have Swiss flags flying on them.

My plot was so prolific that I spent every evening going around neighbours and giving away carrier bags of fruit and vegetables. Had to eventually give it up due to my painful joints, but always great camaraderie too on allotments sites.

This morning our weather is dreary, COLD, and almost raw. Normally by this date, my outdoor planters would be full of colorful young plants; and the deck furnishings would be staged and fabulous. This year? — totally dismal, almost like March. Harumph.

But, this wonderful post has come along to make me feel so hopeful and optimistic. Each of these gardeners labor with love, purpose, joy, and a story to tell. I so enjoyed the top gent, imagining him hoisting the greenhouse on top of his vehicle (yikes) and then going on to conquer the garden plot, the shed, the pond, and who-knows-what. All with a happy smile.

Not unlike the folks doing the mosaics, this is an inspiring story of a creative varied community
bringing beauty into the world. Love it! Thank you, GA.
