Ever since childhood, I have loved visual alphabets. "A for apple", etc. The honey comb layout of the mosaic in the churchyard is undoubtedly one of the most charming illustrated alphabets I have ever seen. So wisely designed, with astute choices for each letter, and a lovely color palette. The intriguing EYE was the element that pulled me right IN, and kept
me searching through each segment. Needle, yep. Gloves, uh huh. Zig zag, sure.

These mosaics are far more than a "body of work" -- this is a lasting legacy of British design.
I'm in awe.

Indeed wouldn’t it be lovely if every town and city had one.
