Models captivate me, and always have. In 8th grade, I hatched a plan to make a cardboard version of Shakespeare's Globe Theater (as an extra-credit project for English class) and my mother and I set to work. My dad was a night watchman at a paper factory, and supplied us with endless materials. (right out of the dumpster) Let's go! Mom and I snooped in our modest encyclopedias for a visual reference, and found a tiny drawing of the Globe that was about the size of a postage stamp. Did we go to the library for a more (ahem) expansive visual? Nope. We started in, and soon our theater had exceeded the size of the dining room table. It was marvelous! The challenge was getting it into Dad's car, to deliver it to the classroom. But, we did it. Building that model was one of the most fanciful, fun activities of my childhood; and I loved working with my mother. Side by side, glue in our hair.

Later in life, I discovered the cardboard cityscapes by Simon Costin, and felt I had encountered a kindred spirit.

Thank you for taking us inside this baronial model of St. Pauls! I'd love to crouch down inside there and have my lunch. Heresy!
