Heck, just reading your description of the space inside the Dome of St Paul's gave me vertigo - as I sit here in a comfortable armchair on a Friday afternoon. And this is someone who went into St Paul's many times as a child growing up in London, the first memory I think was of seeing the Painting by the Pre-Raphaelite Wm Holman Hunt of 'The Light of the World'

A breathless "God's eye view" of an incomparable space. Unless some very unusual planets align, I will never visit this location. And yet the Gentle Author has taken me along with him, and provided visual vitamins as well. I love the macro and the micro. The vaulted soaring spaces, and the feathery inscriptions on the ancient wall. Both. All.

Where will we go next?

Whoah. Your description of stepping out into the void of the whispering gallery was enough to give me a nose bleed. Very evocative. And that's as close I'll ever get to that experience - which suits me fine. Thank you, fearless leader.
