After reading about Jack and seeing his photograph it brought back an incident around 1999/2000. Living near to the Blue Bridge on the Isle of Dogs. My son who was about 4 at the time got his head stuck in railings. I couldn’t get him released. Out of nowhere appeared 2 elderly gentleman who came to my rescue. They said they were both firemen and knew what to do. They disappeared and returned with a car jack and pinged the metal railings opened and out popped my son. I was so relieved and turned to thank them but they both disappeared to this day I thought of them as my angels. I even made a piece of clay work about the incident. Looking at your photograph reminded me of the ‘firemen’, I am hoping it was you, if it was you Jack just wanted to say a big thank you for rescuing my son. Wonderful.

A 'Grand life' indeed and a fascinating one. There is plenty of gristle in that story to chew on and I'm pleased at least some of it has been recorded. What tales these old timers could tell us.
