As the descendant of some pantomime thespians, I can confirm that the dramas most definitely were not just on the stage. The carrying-on outside of the performance certainly did raise eyebrows. One character named his wife, a famous principal boy, as his executor in his last will and testament, and then left all of his worldly goods to his film actress mistress. I haven’t written the blog posts yet relating to this tale but they will be blockbusters hopefully.

I belonged to an amateur dramatics society for a few years and your descriptions of the sets and performers evoked fond memories of the times we would spend rehearsing. We also did annual pantomimes, among them “Rumpelstiltskin” and “The Wizard of Oz”. I would love to have seen the production of “Dick Whittington” with your clever rhymes!
