I wonder if anyone has a recollection of John Gaze, of Fournier street….he was one of the first to revive (brilliantly) a 1724 house there, until his move to Albany in 1992…I was his partner, and think of him constantly, especially when reading about old friends (though not always on the best of terms) of his like D Severs. I thank TGA for these reminders of the characters who made this area so special.

Surely these are the most endearing and atmospheric photos for the Season! I can feel my pulse racing and my senses being stirred by all of the holiday touches throughout these rooms. My
child self was so captivated and enthralled, and my “art director self” was filled with admiration for this skillful heartfelt presentation. Every inch of every room says “Happy Holidays, dears”.

I know I would have been highly susceptible to these evenings though as an ex-actor I can see I would have to have kept my natural thespian inclinations to myself. Sounds like Mr Severs brooked no competition.

What wonderfully evocative prose and beautiful pictures. Both really bring Dennis Severs and his house brilliantly to life. When I lived above the market in Commercial Street we briefly had a tenants group which Dennis was a member of and I remember going to a Christmas meeting that started with a tour of the house followed by mince pies and (I think) mulled wine in his basement kitchen. It was very special and he was very special too.
