This is a brilliant memoir with such detailed observation. Thank you Jeanette. You had an amazing great grandfather. I hope that a copy of this will go to the Museum of London – some of the detail on the buildings and remains needs to be seen against records of the city and archaeology.

Well He certainly had firm opinions on the changing times. He would be boggled by things now no doubt . i seem to remember Socrates also bemoaning the degradation of the young so I guess we haven’t changed much at all.

I wonder if William stayed in the provision trade. I so love how he is eager to put forward his rather stern attitudes. I imagine the Roaring Twenties were an anathema to him.
