A fascinating glimpse into a forgotten era. My family owned Brother Bung pickles which I know were a great delicacy among the Jewish population and beyond. The business was long gone by the time this film was recorded but in its heyday (c 1880-1950) it was a thriving operation.

A wonderful post of times gone by. My mother 'cleaned' for a couple who lived in a rather posh apartment in Chelsea, and that couple were Jewish, but ironically had the Christmas Turkey business in Smithfield. They were a wonderful couple and very kind to our family. I kept in touch with Mrs S long after both her husband and my mum had gone; but still keep in touch with one of her nieces who lives in Covent Garden.

The film footage is fascinating, it’s lovely listening to Mr Rogg talk about what he sells in the deli and also about the history of the area and the people who lived there - and the cheesecake looked marvellous.

Wonderful to see images of Barry Rogg & the shop again & wonderful to have Alan Dein's words. Living close by in Shadwell from 1977 on, I used often to drop by Rogg's, especially for strudels or cheesecake, over the following quarter century. Would be good to have the photograph of the shop exterior/entry exhibited onto the corner of the present building (I think this of many places in LBTH)
