This is a great book, well written, thought-provoking, informative and plenty of laughs too....Eddie Johnson writes about an era when the British working class were at their most powerful financially and culturally, before the demise of industries such as the docklands that he was so involved with. It's a welcome antidote to the books on the 60s that concentrate on Chelsea and students....not that the Chelsea set and student activism/art wasn't vital, it's just that there was so much more going on and it often gets buried. Essential stuff.

What more can I say? -- I am smitten.

From the young fellow perched on the photographer's bench, gripping his story book, to the
mature rascal in the final photo --- Eddie is a bona fide head-turner. Congrats. Wish I had the opportunity to visit The Pudding -- it is my kinda place.
Cheers, all.

Great post.

Eddie Johnson passed away in 2018. There is a nice tribute here from his son Matt Johnson, founder of The The.

(Matt's autobiography covers his childhood growing up above the Two Puddings and is worth a read too.)

I recall this pub but never had the pleasure to enjoy Motown nights which I would have loved. But the name fascinates me why the Two Puddings has it connections to the Meat Markets. GA really enjoy your interesting stories about the East End and further afield keep scribbling away and look forward to many more.
