I knew Hessel Street well and had my first ever job there washing hair at Estelle’s salon. A Saturday job paying one pound a day and a few tips.

It made me angry to think the teacher couldn’t appreciate Hester’s instinctive gift for drawing. Obviously in the wrong job! I’m so glad she was able to get the space to create her beautiful garden.
