I remember Mile End having some lovely houses in the back and side streets when I was studying at Queen Mary College in the early to mid 90s. A lot of the larger houses at the back of the college were rented out by groups of medical students.

The fancy dress parties on the photos here look like a lot of fun, but you wouldn’t be able to get away with them now as you’d be accused of cultural misappropriation or worse.
