Having visited the cathedral on a trip with my son, I remember quite vividly how winded I was once we reached the Golden Gallery. My legs were jelly and I was scared to death and exhilarated while looking over the city from such a great height! There was no way I could have reached the top (at least 20 minutes to do so) without my son telling me there was "no way in hell we aren't going to the top" having just traveled 4,800 miles from Salt Lake City. This experience, along with the joy of pulling a piece of a pipe stem from the muddy Thames foreshore, is now etched in my mind and will forever be among the fondest of moments spent on a father/son trip.

I have climbed up there with my father and we went right up into the cross at the top. I had none of your feelings of vertigo despite having to step over the drop to the floor below in order to climb up the last few steps. That was just an adventure to me but then I did grow up as a tomboy, always up a tree or on the shed roof, and there was a guide to hold onto you and to help you across and, so far as I know, no one ever fell ! The views were stupendous and something never to be forgotten. Happy memories.
