Great photos but struggling to work out what the street in Stoke Newington is. Looks like it was about to be demolished. There seems to be a slight hill up away from the camera but that isn't helping my detective work! Nor can I remember a bakery called Thomas in Stoke Newington.

Great photos Neil and the GA. I love the two teacher photos - the first doing the job in the playground, and the second, campaigning for a better deal for children. I did the same. I protested against cuts ( and still do). Education is the great leveller - it doesn't matter who you are, or where you are from, come on in, sit down, and learn. Wonderful!

The photos of the barbershop take me back about 60 years. When I was little my dad used to take me for a walk depending on his shift, he was a miner. Sometimes he’d stop at the barbers and I’d sit while he had his hair cut. I still remember the smells of all the lotions and potions and the barber singeing freshly cut hair to seal the ends.

After looking at about 5000 images I found the perfect image for the front cover of my book Child Migrant Voices in Modern Britain - Oral Histories 1930s - Present Day published by Bloomsbury February 2024.

It was by Neil Martinson of a multi-racial group of children arm in arm strolling to William Patten school in Stoke Newington in 1974. Perfect.
