So many people in need wherever you are at this time of year, it is heartbreaking.

We have a charity in Basel called Schwarzer Peter (Black Peter, it refers to a chimney sweep). They provide a hot Christmas meal for homeless and poor pensioners plus small gifts like toiletries and warm socks so I donate to that.

I don’t like to think of children going without and have no children myself so I have also donated to a charity that makes up Christmas boxes for children in poor countries; also to another which does the same for Swiss children. People have the assumption that Switzerland is a rich country, but believe me there are plenty of pockets of rural poverty up in the mountains and homeless in the cities here.

What a show of humanity! Tony Miller and his family are clearly the best of people. Colin's photography manages to capture the comfort and joy brought by the kindness of simple acts - the provision of a warm meal, dry clothes and a safe space. What a hopeful story but, I am sure that this hides a huge amount of fundraising and hard work. Hats off to all concerned and thanks again for all that you do. Thanks to the GA for highlighting this worthy cause.

This is a worthy place and quite rightly exposes the vulnerability of sleeping rough .
I used to live around the corner from it before our street Milward st was pulled down through slum clearance and the families scattered like the wind.
