Friends who know I too love hyacinth and spring bulbs, gifted me 5 of 10 varieties of your hyacinth bulb. They are all in flower now, beautiful purples and violets, blues of Elektron and Blue eyes, huge flower heads of Ben Nevis and Colloseum, yellow of City of Haarlem and L'Ophir a double, colourful Jan Bos and Oranje Boven. I have a garden full of colour and fragrance, thanks to you and my friends Laura and Nige. Julie

I would gawp at this hyacinth spectacle too! I adore them and their perfume is unique. Interesting beginnings too; just imagine winning a Pony in a raffle!!! Quite fancy a bacon sarnie for breakfast too now it's been mentioned. There are so many elements to this story, that I am in awe. I take my hat (if I had one) off to you Alan Shipp. Barnard Castle is just a short drive away from my current home, so think I'll have to check out the hyacinths there. A quick google tells me they are at Wycliffe Hall Botanic Garden at Barnard Castle. I wasn't aware that there even WAS a Botanic Garden there!!!

Alan Shipp is the true ambassador of spring! It's time for his hyacinths to be put to good use. Will probably place them on my balcony as well.

A beautiful story and all the best to the professional gardener!

Love & Peace
