Thoroughly enjoyed this post as we are drinkers and I’m always trying to find our old pubs to visit! I’m even more delighted as I have drank in ten of the pubs you have mentioned! Only regret I wish they looked like the photos when I visited! I think only the Grenidier and the Spaniard looks the same x

What about Dirty Dicks near Liverpool station. It’s been sanitised a little over time but worth a visit.

It's good to see that some of these pubs have survived - but not many. We are fortunate to have two 450 year old pubs in Worcester - both still serving ale. The Cardinal's Hat claims to be the oldest closely followed by King Charles House. Both are excellent and well worth a visit. Sadly a planning hatchet job in the 1970s destroyed many historic buildings here.
You can't get near nor by the George in Borough High St ( I know, I tried recently!), but I did visit the Cock Inn, Mare St, where my maternal grandparents both worked and met. Grandad then became bar manager of the Queen's Head in Hackney Rd which is sadly gone. A great uncle managed the Connaught Inn close to the London Excel conference centre. Thanks GA, I feel thirsty now!

A person could work up a real THIRST looking at these wonderful, atmospheric photos. I love the details -- lettering, lighting fixtures and lanterns, architectural fripperies, etc. It's only 9 AM here in the Hudson Valley, but "the bar is open" at our house, and I think I'll have a Bloody Mary.

Thanks for this coach tour of the various remarkable pubs. I feel windblown, but quite happy.
One more round, if you please.

These records are absolutely priceless! Many thanks.

Until recently I worked within a 5 minute walk of The Old Dr Butlers Head, and I'm happy to announce it's still going strong and is well worth a visit.

A very good idea — curl up in a cosy corner of your favourite pub and enjoy a GUINNESS or two. I finally have to do that again!
